Torah laws) and how they are applied in a modern economy but it seems to me that we have to do a better job in this area as a community and as a country. We need a guest workers program in this country so that people can come and work here with dignity and go and visit their families. If that means that wages will increase to the extent that some large Jewish families will not be able to afford help which they badly need, perhaps the community can organize a way to subsidize wages of domestic helpers. That way, the community will support the value of having large families while also fulfilling a Jewish obligation to treat workers properly.

2009-01-04 Good for the goose - Breaking News, New Brunswick, Canada

It may be a small player in the North American publishing scene, but Goose Lane Editions looms large in the lives of the regional and national authors whose words it delivers to readers around the globe.

In the United States, large publishing houses such as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Penguin Group, Random House and Simon and Schuster recently announced cuts and restructurings as the cold grip of the recession tightens on the book industry.

Alexander says it was a labour of love for Cogswell, who financed it largely out of his own pocket and with resources he could cobble together form the University of New Brunswick. The first book of poetry the fledgling company published was one of Cogswells own, The Stunted Strong.

2009-01-03 The Arts Illuminating edge to "lobby art" at Seattle City Light Seattle Times Newspaper

Least interesting were Victoria Havens cut steel and aluminum wall sculptures that present gridlike forms in slick blue, silver and white. While they are meant to resonate with both electrical systems and geographical features, they seemed too cold and self-contained to breed further associations.

One of the most direct references comes in Marie Watts "Energy: Our Heirloom," a large-scale, multipaneled work of embroidery, wool and silk that touches on the history and future of City Light.

2008-12-31 Deseret News Reader comments: Utah didnt have worst vote turnout

Why even vote in Utah If your not a Republican your vote doesnt count anyway-- Utahns are totally brain washed and dont have a clue about the issues or how the system works-- If you are a Democrat your automatically evil and a gadiantan (did I spell that right Mr. Herbert) and not to be trusted. Total control breeds total corruptsion. Welcome to Utah folks--

Frankly, I tire of the drive to encourage everyone over 18 to vote. What good does it do to have the uninformed voting in ever larger numbers At best it only increases the randomness in the process; at worst it means votes cast on nothing more than name recognition, bias and bigotry, or simple-minded party affiliation.

Expert tears into cat conspiracy

Its not often you get to see transmogrification of species outside of Hollywood movies, but just last week I had such an opportunity as I watched a large stray cat turn into a mountain lion in the space of a few short days.

Almost all of our wilderness and larger wildlife is gone from these islands, and though we spend a lot of time lecturing other nations on how they should be caring for theirs its tragically clear were still not following our own advice.

Also urged both sides to refrain from violence. "Moscow believes it is necessary to immediately stop a large-scale military operation against Gaza Strip, which has already led to numerous casualties and sufferings of peaceful Palestinians," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said.

I believe this is the only way out. I dont think this problem can be solved through military means. Violence will breed more violence," he said Saturday.

2008-12-29 Is California finished Hardly - The Daily Breeze

When it comes to out-migration, much of that has been motivated not by distaste for California, but by cash considerations. When people could sell California houses for hundreds of thousands of dollars more than they were paying for an equivalent or better home somewhere else, there was a big incentive to leave. This was the single largest reason so many Californians departed for nearby, cheaper places in Idaho, Arizona and Nevada. With real estate values now here vastly reduced, watch the out-migration rate dwindle.

2008-12-29 Waxwings invade Anchorage: Outdoors

The oil companies bought thousands of 2- to 4-foot sapling trees . given away free . to plant in your yard. The free-tree program went on for several years (and) thousands of trees were planted in yards all around Anchorage. A large percentage of the trees were mountain ash.

This was only the second time in the history of the Anchorages Christmas Bird Count that a Harriss sparrow, which breeds in Canada and typically winters in the central U. S. was seen.
