2009-05-29 The Post-Searchlight Society seeking prosecution in dogs caseHER HEAD RAW FROM fleas and her coat badly matted, the small, elderly, possibly blinded dog was left at the animal shelter Monday night. A reward is being offered for the identify of the dogs owner. Humane Society officials say they are going to seek animal cruelty charges. The small dog was, nothing but matts and fleas, Pam Immendorf, president of the Humane Society, said in a letter and on the telephone Wednesday. Her nails had grown so long that they had curled under and were embedded in the knots and matts on her feet. I feel there are more options for this dog, other than adoption or being put to sleep. There are animal sanctuaries across the United States that take in dogs like Hunkie. One of them is "Best Friends Sanctuary" in Utah. There are people like Cesar Milan, the "Dog Whisperer", who make a living rehabilitating dogs like Hunkie. I read he was recently on Long Island for North Shore Animal Adoption day. Has anyone tried to contact someone like him Also, there has got to be some sort of legal remedy available that would release the Putnam shelter from responsibility, should the dog bite another person. If there is not, I would think one could be created and approved. In this age of lawsuits and malpractice suits, one can understand how the Putnam shelter is afraid of being sued if Hunkie bites another person. Having said that, I find it lohud.com
