Arlington man sentenced for beating dog

Hobbs belly was gashed in several places and was held together by staples after surgery. The dog spent a week in the hospital and another seven weeks in foster care with Animal Friends.

Anthony Ansill, 26, was ordered to continue receiving treatment at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic by Common Pleas Judge Donald E. Machen, who also ordered Mr. Ansill to have no contact with any animals.

Mr. Ansill pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty charge in February for beating Hobbs, a mixed breed Labrador retriever-bloodhound, because the dog relieved himself in Mr. Ansills apartment. Mr. Ansill did not own Hobbs and was briefly caring for him at the time.

Our center and our children have been the recipients of such great generosity from the local community throughout the years, and they have been eager to experience the wonderful feeling of service and giving back, said Jean Arbec, day school teaching assistant at the center. We decided that collecting supplies and raising funds for the animals at Forever Paws was a worthy cause for the children to pursue.

Over the past month, students in Classroom no. 7 have been accepting donations from family, friends and visitors to the center. They also raised more than usd. 200 by selling candy apples at the centers reception area.
